During my experience in EDL 7100 Leadership Theory and Practice I was challenged to take the perspective of an individual in a leadership position. Throughout the course we were given assignments in which we assumed a leadership position such as being a principal, administrator, team coach etc. and then we were given a scenario in which to effect change. This course allowed me the chance to think in the mindset of a leader and to reflect on the many ways that my school is in need of change.
As the course progressed we learned what it takes to be a leader and how school culture plays a large role in meaningful and effective change. If the school has a negative mindset towards change then the leader or coach will be hard pressed to have any substantial impact in the school or the community. This course did a great job at offering tools in which to inspire teachers to adopt change and I feel that it will aid me when I am in a leadership position.
I feel that the assignments in this course were lasting and meaningful to my career and will serve me well in the future. Being able to put into practice my own leadership style and blending in the material that I have learned in this course will serve to make me a more effective leader.
