Through the development of the Vision Paper I was able to bring a new vision of technology to Norton Park Elementary School and form a plan that teachers and staff will be able to implement within the curriculum on an everyday basis. I met with administration to discuss the technology resources available and ways in which to maximize their uses so that each child is being benefited by the incorporation of technology into the classroom setting. We looked at what was currently being done and discussed way to improve those methods as well as new methods that could be brought to the table.
This document demonstrates my ability to facilitate the development of a shared vision because it allows me to show the careful thought process and time that went into forming the vision of my school. By meeting with teachers in an individual and group setting I was able to take into account the concerns that they had for the current vision as well as their ideas on ways that the use of technology can be improved as it pertains to teaching, learning, and leadership within the classroom. This document also helped me to demonstrate my ability to facilitate the implementation of a shared vision by allowing me the opportunity to put the vision into practice. After the vision was written I met with the principal periodically in order to discuss ways to best implement the vision and allow the teachers to incorporate the vision into the classroom. I also played a role in facilitating discussion with the leadership team that met periodically to discuss ways to reach our technology goals and to better implement the vision within our school.
Through the development of the Vision Paper I learned what it takes to asses a current vision and to make that vision into something meaningful and new. I felt that this assignment strengthened me as a leader and that it challenged my view points on technology and how it can be best used to help the students at my school. This assignment helped me to form relationships that might not have otherwise been possible and has opened up a line of communication that I hope will continue into the future. If I could do this assignment again I would set as series of short-term goals in addition to long-term. I believe that by meeting short-term goals teachers, staff, and students will be encouraged to learn more about technology and the many ways that it can benefit them.
The work that went into developing our shared vision plan has positively impact my school because it has opened up our eyes to the many areas that need to be worked on when it comes to technology integration and it was crucial in the development of a plan to reach our technology goals. Students are now using technology to learn and to complete projects, teachers are learning to use the technology resources available to them, and the administration is taking an active role in the use of technology throughout the school. I believe that through the course of this project my schools moral has been boosted and a new form of 21t Century teaching is beginning to take place.
