1.4 Diffusion of Innovations & Change
Candidates research, recommend, and implement strategies for initiating and sustaining technology innovations and for managing the change process in schools. (PSC 1.4/ISTE 1d)
The Action/Evaluation Plan was developed based on the strengths and weaknesses that were identified in the SWOT Analysis. The artifact recommends strategies, a timeframe, budget, funding sources and delegates roles to help the school achieve its technology goals. The plan was collaboratively created with the school technology team and school administrators.
Standard 1.4 allows students to demonstrate mastery by researching, recommending, and implementing strategies for initiating and sustaining technology innovations and for managing the change process in schools. Developing the Action/Evaluation Plan allowed me to research the current state of Norton Park Elementary School and recommend the best methods such as the refinement and organization of the schools professional development and a stronger focus on reading goals and objectives to introduce to teachers and students. By recommending such strategies to the technology team we were able to create several goals that relates to using technology to aid in the change process. The team implemented strategies that would help achieve each goal and initiated methods that would sustain technology innovations. Collaboratively we discussed and recommended technologies that would support reading instruction and practice that were eventually implemented. We also created a plan for technology related professional development that would take place bi-monthly.
Through completing the Action/Evaluation Plan I was presented with one of the primary focuses of a technology leader. I learned how to develop goals and how to develop a plan that would help achieve each goal. Creating a budget and adhering to timelines is something that I was very unfamiliar with but gained experience by completing this process. I believe that more administrative input was needed to make this plan more effective. Some of the goals are not being met due to budget constraints and other initiatives that are being put in place.
Creating the Action/Evaluation Plan with the technology team was very beneficial in aiding to the change process. It allowed me and other teachers to recommend and implement a plan that ultimately helped professionally develop teachers and improve student achievement. More and more teachers are using technology in their classrooms due the actions that have been implemented which is evidenced by teacher observations and participation in professional learning opportunities.
