6.1 Continuous Learning
Candidates demonstrate continual growth in knowledge and skills of current and emerging technologies and apply them to improve personal productivity and professional practice. (PSC 6.1/ISTE 6a, 6b)
The artifact for Standard 6.1 is a literature review completed for ITEC 7470, Educational Research. The literature review provides a detailed summary of how web tools impact math achievement and how professional development impacts technology related instruction. The literature review was developed to align with the purpose and objectives of my capstone project.
Standard 6.1, Continuous Learning, outlines expectations for candidates to demonstrate continual growth in knowledge and skills of current and emerging technologies and apply them to improve personal productivity and professional practice. As technology is ever improving and changing it is important to continually evaluate current and emerging technologies and trends. Through completing the literature review I had to research and evaluate web tools that would positively impact math achievement and instruction. I then applied the knowledge and skills learned by designing and completing my capstone project which helped the productivity and the professional practice of completing the project.
By completing the literature review I first learned about the effective use of web tools to increase math achievement and the importance of professional learning opportunities related to technology integration. I also learned how to gather and analyze a variety of sources in order to share my findings. I think that developing a presentation of my findings would have been beneficial and could have been used when providing professional learning to the teachers who were part of my capstone project.
This artifact has impacted both student achievement and faculty development and was a critical part of my capstone project. The knowledge and skills that I learned through completing the literature review has ultimately been taught to the teachers who participated in my capstone project who utilized the research to instruct their students. The impact of this was assessed though the impact my capstone project had on the faculty and students where I assessed student achievement through formative and summative assessments and faculty development through pre and post surveys.
