6.3 Field Experiences
Candidates engage in appropriate field experiences to synthesize and apply the content and professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions identified in these standards. (PSC 6.3)
The artifact that supports Standard 6.3 is the Structured Field Experience Log that I created in ITEC 7305. In order to produce this artifact I had to do extensive amounts of research, data collection, data analysis, and reflection over the Georgia Milestones End of Grade Assessment for third, fourth, and fifth grades. This field experience log contains a description of the activities, time frames, PSC Standards, participant diversity, as well as an in-depth reflection about the experience.
This standard focuses on field experiences designed to facilitate synthesis and application of the content and professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions addressed in the coursework. Engaging in this field experience allowed me to synthesize and apply the knowledge gained in the ITEC 7305, Data Analysis and School Improvement course. I was able to effectively collect, analyze, and present data to the administration and staff at my school which also shows my ability to synthesize and apply content and professional knowledge in order to communicate important data to the faculty. The field experience log and reflections outline how I have applied the skills and dispositions to impact school improvement.
By completing this field experience I have learned the steps that it takes to create an effective data overview. Collecting and analyzing data to creating a visually appealing and purposeful presentation that would provide clear and accurate results is a complex task. However, from completing this experience I am more confidant in collecting and analyzing the various types of data which will prove to be a necessary skill as a technology facilitator. After receiving feedback from administration and other teachers, there are many changes that I would make to the data overview to improve its quality and usefulness. Desegregating the data into different ways would provide a better understanding and clearer picture of what our schools data looks like and what we need to do to further school improvement. I was asked by my administration to update the data overview yearly which will allow me to continue to improve its quality.
By completing this field experience faculty development, student learning and ultimately school improvement was impacted. Teachers can use the data overview to drive their instruction and reflect on what areas and strategies they should focus on. They can also use the data to make predictions on how the students will perform. The impact could be assessed through observing how teachers use the data to inform their instruction and by continually monitoring the data and comparing it to the previous years.
