Strategically creating a technology plan is no easy task but after taking this course I learned a lot about the process. I also learned that simply using technology in the school system and classrooms does not mean that students are being impacted in a beneficial way. It is up to the teacher to ensure that the technology resources supplied to him or her are used in the most effective way possible, as it pertains to each student.
Throughout this course I was challenged to survey the current attitude that teachers, students, parents and administrators have towards technology in the school system. I took note of the technology resources available to teachers and students and I then observed how those resources were being utilized in the classroom setting. Based off of my observations I then developed an action plan to improve the use of technology within my school and I got the opportunity to pitch my vision for technology integration to the principal.
Some resources that I found valuable were Edutopia and The Principal As Technology Leader by Theadore Creighton. The Principal As Technology Leader is my favorite text I have encountered so far and details many good points on technology leadership and strategic planning. I have found it useful to call upon these resources when I encounter a roadblock and I have suggested my work peers look into them as well. Overall I feel that this course has provided me with a better perspective on technology and its many uses within the school system. However, perhaps more importantly this course has equipped me with the tools and mindset necessary to be an effective instructional technology leader.
