I have found that this course has been one of the most applicable to my teaching career thus far. Technology integration within the classroom has always been something that I am passionate about and it has often saddened me to see my fellow teachers struggle within this area. It is easy to look at technology and be intimidated, especially when it comes to applying it to the standards of learning that teachers must adhere to. That is why I found this course so helpful. Studying about LOTI (Levels of Technology Integration) has provided me with the insight and confidence that I need to talk with my team members about technology and the most effective way to use it in the classroom.
Another aspect of this course that I enjoyed was the Engaged Learning Project. This was really the turning point where the material I learned in the course began to clique with my teaching career. I enjoyed coaching each other within the classroom and then bringing those suggestions from my classroom peers to my work peers. The resources and information provided in this course has allowed me to better evaluate the effectiveness of lessons in regards to technology resources, the way in which those resources are being used and the level of engagement that it is giving the students.
This course has opened my eyes to the sad truth that while many teachers can claim that they use technology in their classroom, a very small percentage of them can say that it is being used in a purposeful and meaningful way. The fact is that one of the biggest roles that 21st teachers have is to change the negative perception of technology that many teachers hold and to teach them how to best incorporate technology in the classroom.
